AMANDA REYNEKE VAN DEN BERG
Amanda was born in Umtata. She grew up in Pretoria and relocated to Cape Town in 1992 and in 1999 to Hermanus. 2010 they moved to Upington for a period of 4 years after which they returned to the Western Cape and settle in Langebaan where they have since been living. After having matriculated she accepted a position as a student technical assistant at the School of Art and Design - then the Pretoria Technical College – planning to study Landscape Architecture the following academic year. She started attending classes at the Art School, achieve the required accolades up to Honours level and lectured in Art and Design, focusing on Textile Design and Drawing collectively for 22 years eventually resigning from a senior position.
Furthering and enriching her own skills as a designer whilst lecturing, she worked as a freelance designer for the industry, design and print fabrics for couture fashion designers, trade on craft markets in the informal sector and was involved with product development for the international craft trade. Amanda was also involved with additional complementary and enriching projects as initiator and advisor in the private, commercial and industrial sectors of Visual Arts and Design. In her formal capacity as a lecturer, she took part in various group exhibitions. After retiring from formal education in 1999, she focused on her passion for drawing and mark-making techniques, working towards group exhibitions in Hermanus, Stellenbosch and Durbanville. During the 4 years in Upington, Amanda facilitated and curate solo-exhibitions of the local artists on a monthly basis whilst developing her own style in mix media in which she executes her work.
The time spent in the Northern Cape with its arid landscapes has lend to her work the spacious minimalistic quality. In Langebaan she is actively involved with the art route having work on permanent exhibition at two venues, a gallery-shop on the Langebaan Art Route as well as at Pumpkin House ‘Little Gallery’ and her solo-exhibition showing her drawings in mixed media and crossed techniques of printmaking.
She successfully designs and trades, together with her two sisters, greeting colouring cards on Amazon and Etsy since 2017
