I was born in Cape Town, South Africa and lived there until 2019. I began my career in art by studying sculpture with Ursula Bergman-Maag while in my late teens. I then trained and worked as a fashion designer before I started painting In 1991. I joined the Wendy Martel Studio in Cape Town and attended weekly classes with her for 18 months until she retired. Thereafter I continued painting on my own, my love of portraiture and the medium of oils taking over my life to become my passion.

At this time I would paint whoever would allow me the pleasure and these paintings were gifted to my subjects. In 1994 I painted Nelson Mandela, the first democratic president of South Africa.  Today this painting hangs in The Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund Building in Johannesburg.

From the mid-90’s until now I ran a busy teaching studio for adults and more recently children while fulfilling private commissions numbering in the hundreds. I have a broad range of painting styles to draw upon, although I prefer the medium of oils. My body of work includes traditional portraits, animal studies, abstracts and landscapes.

Red Gallery in Cape Town have sold most of the work I’ve created since 2014 with paintings on display in their Steenburg and Bree Street Galleries in Cape Town. My paintings hang in private collections in Australia, America, France, Italy, Scotland, Germany, The Netherlands and Africa. I gratefully continue my daily art practice as I begin the next phase of my adventure in Kingston.

Teaching Experience

1995 - 2019

My main interest other than the joy of actual painting has been the inspiration of others through Art and the Empowerment of individuals through new skill acquisition.

My classes consisted of adults until 2016 when I was asked to open a class for six ~12 yr olds. These were kids with a natural talent in art and they were taught exactly in the same manner as the adults. My studio has produced at least five art teachers and many exhibiting artists.
